We are currently educating community members about the dangers of cholera to reduce propagation and infection. In addition, we are distributing over 400 drinking water sanitation systems, which serve to purify the drinking water. These measures are preventative, as no cases have yet been reported in the communities where we work.
A Note from Scott
Dear Friends,
It has been a year and a half since the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Thank you to those of you who donated to our vital relief efforts, which helped save lives. Thank you to those of you who prayed for the protection and well being of our Haitian brothers and sisters. Your support helped transform the lives of thousands of Haitians as they went from utter despair, to hope for a better future.
Since the earthquake, we have raised over $1 million for immediate relief efforts, which were used to distribute over 107 tons of seed to rural communities and to employ 4,300 people through our “Cash for Work” program. In the last year, the farmers we work with planted 540,000 trees and constructed nearly 600 miles of soil conservation barriers.
As a result of these efforts, thousands of families were able to feed their households, as well as the Internally Displaced People (IDP) who came to live with them after fleeing Port au Prince. They also experienced improved health and increased incomes.
This progress is encouraging, but there is still so much more to be done. We will continue to work with rural Haitians long-term to reverse the vicious cycle of poverty and deforestation permanently through reforestation projects, soil conservation efforts, and savings and loan groups.
But we need your help. Please consider joining us in our efforts. If you would like to make a donation that will 100% benefit our long-term recovery efforts, please fill out and submit the donation form below.
We would be very grateful for your contributions. Thank you again for your prayers and for your partnership with us for the good of Haiti.
Sincerely,
Scott C. Sabin
