haiti relief
Dear Friends,
The situation in Haiti remains dire. Like you, we have been heartbroken by the news of the earthquake and we continue to pray for all of Haiti and in particular for the 67 communities where we work.
Milmer Martinez, one of our US Program Officers, is in Haiti right now and we have been working with him and Guy Paraison, the country director for Floresta-Haiti, to continue to develop a short-term and long-term plan of action.
Right now we are focusing our efforts on creating short-term employment opportunties, which we are calling "Cash for Work". Rural farmers will create soil conservation barriers and plant seedlings in exchange for cash. This will help to relieve the economic pressure on families affected by the migration of people from Port au Prince into the villages, while at the same time applying soil conservation and tree planting in communities where we work to prevent more devastation when the rainy season approaches.
Please consider making a donation to immediate relief efforts, which will go toward the creation of short-term employment opportunities. Or, please consider donating to our ongoing long-term work, which we have been involved with since 1997.
If you would like to make a donation that will 100% benefit our immediate and long-term relief and recovery efforts, please fill out and submit the donation form below.
We would be very grateful for your contributions to these efforts, which promise to be long and difficult. Follow our blog at www.plantwithpurpose.blogspot.com for updates from our local staff in Haiti. Thank you again for your prayers and for your partnership with us for the good of Haiti.
