Meet the newest member of our team! Kirstie is our new outreach coordinator and is here to connect you to Plant With Purpose. Look for her at upcoming events, she is bound to introduce herself! Welcome Kirstie!

Hi my name is Kirstie and no one has ever accused me of lacking enthusiasm. It is an understatement to say that I am honored and excited to join the Plant With Purpose team as your new outreach coordinator. As a recent graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU), working at Plant With Purpose means fulfilling both career goals and personal convictions. For fellow students who can appreciate where I am coming from; coming into the office is like going to your favorite class everyday and studying your favorite subject alongside a talented, passionate, and supportive staff. Could it get any better?

Four formative years at PLNU gave me just enough time to begin to figure out how my talents, passions, experiences, and values intersect. At times it seemed challenging to merge my deep compassion for people and my responsibility as a steward of creation. As my faith deepened during my time at PLNU, I realized that I did not have to live a double life to be both a humanitarian and an environmentalist. Working for the Sustainability Department on campus and serving as President of the Student for Environmental Action Club allowed me to take part in pivotal campus discussions, and to connect with individuals of like mind.

I first heard about Plant With Purpose when Scott Sabin came and spoke in one of my classes. It was that day that Ecology and Conservation finally made sense! Soon I started volunteering at the San Diego office, which eventually led to an invaluable semester long internship with the development team. Working and learning alongside the team, I found that Plant With Purpose’s threefold mission paralleled my values and gave me purpose in my work. Wanting to connect my peers with Plant With Purpose, I enjoyed planning the first annual “Rooted Art Show” at PLNU with Annie – the previous Outreach Coordinator. Connecting PLNU to Plant With Purpose turned out to be one of my favorite and most meaningful college experiences.

In my senior year, I stayed connected to Plant With Purpose volunteering whenever I could, and organizing the second annual “Rooted Art Show” collaboration. The event was a great success and a bookend to my time at PLNU.

Coming on board now officially as a member of the team feels a bit like coming home. I am grateful to be supported by such an incredible staff, and I am more than excited to connect with all of you! Please feel free to email me and introduce yourself at  Let’s get you plugged in!

  1. Kirstie…I just want to say “Welcome!”. I’ve been volunteering for over 20 years. (Maybe 30?). And Annelise said she would have a poster for me to put on our table at Faith Community Church. I teach at PLNU in the COM & Theatre dept. Hope to meet you soon. Are you taking Annelise’s place? Or are you taking someone else’s place?

  2. Hi Honey,

I was quite impressed and wide-eyed at the far reaching effects of Plant With Purpose when we attended our first banquet in 2013 when you were yet a volunteer. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that you are surrounded by such a faith-filled, fired up, talented and fun group of people. Thank you God!

Can’t wait to see what He has in store for you!

You know, I am always praying for you and now for continued blessings on the Plant with Purpose ministry!
