Today we want to introduce you to another new team member! Ellen Noyes joins Plant With Purpose’s staff in San Diego as our grant writer. We are amazed how her life experiences, education, and giftings make her the perfect fit for this position. Help us welcome Ellen!

My name is Ellen Noyes and I am thrilled to be Plant With Purpose’s new grant writer. This position combines my love of writing, my passion for sustainable poverty alleviation and environmental care, and my Christian faith. I am excited to learn more about how Plant With Purpose is addressing poverty in a holistic way around the globe, and to articulate this vision to our donors. I am also thankful for the chance to work with wonderful teammates who have already given me such a warm welcome.

My journey leading up to this job has been an exciting adventure. Growing up in San Diego, I had opportunities to visit and help build houses in Tijuana, Mexico. These trips opened my eyes to the harsh realities of material poverty in our world, as well as to the importance of caring for our global neighbors.

Since then, God has continued to increase my compassion for others, and shape my understanding of concepts like “poverty” and “missions.” Every time I’ve taken risks—like volunteering at an elementary school in Costa Rica, working on an impact evaluation study with Heifer International in Guatemala, and partnering with a group of Christian college students in Mexico—I’ve grown a little bit more.

I have also learned about sustainable poverty alleviation and missions in academic settings by getting my Masters in International Development and Nonprofit Management at UC San Diego, and taking the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement course. These experiences, combined with past jobs at Habitat for Humanity East Bay and Voices for Children, have contributed to my ability and desire to work at Plant With Purpose. I couldn’t be happier to be here!

Outside of work, I enjoy activities like hiking, softball, reading, board games, and knitting (although I must admit I have been working on the same scarf for three years). I also love spending time with friends and family. I look forward to meeting my first nephew this year and can’t wait to be a “fun aunt.”

I’d be happy to hear from you at
