Giving Hope Through Gardens on #GivingTuesday

I pray to God that Burundi receives its daily bread and that hunger is eradicated.
This is a big prayer: one that needs a miraculous answer. Burundi is the hungriest country in the world and following months of tension, it can only be assumed that even more families are going to bed with empty stomachs.
Plant With Purpose is working to provide solutions to this crisis. Through training farming families in sustainable agriculture practices, farms are being restored. Soil now supports crop growth after years of sitting fallow during civil unrest. Seeds are being distributed replacing diseased crops.
As a mom of ten, these seemingly small steps offer abundant hope for Espérance. On her small plot of land, Espérance and her husband plant corn, beans, potatoes, bananas, and other vegetables.
“I am very pleased to see how we could improve the nutrition of our children with vegetables that can be grown in even in a small garden,” states Espérance.
Farmer Field Schools, sustainable agriculture training, and materials provided by Plant With Purpose are making a difference in this hungry country.
“I can only thank Plant With Purpose for
thinking of us small farmers.”
In less than three weeks, on December 1, Plant With Purpose will hold a one-day campaign to raise funds for 10 families—like Espérance’s—to receive family gardens. $500 will provide the tools and training to do just that. We can’t wait to take a swing at hunger.
December 1 is #GivingTuesday, a day dedicated to giving back through your time, talents, and treasures. Plant With Purpose will be chipping away at local hunger by volunteering at the Coastal Roots Farm in Encinitas from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Join us as we get our hands dirty, prepping the soil, pruning plants, and preparing the Farm for a harvest to be donated to local charities.
