Meet Jhoselle, our enthusiastic new Cultivator!

Written by Plant With Purpose on July 7, 2015 in Cultivator of the Quarter

Jhoselle Padilla is a bold and passionate advocate for Plant With Purpose and is “on fire” for our mission and our work. Jhoselle’s involvement with Plant With Purpose began a year ago when she was introduced to us at our office open house. This past year her support has proved invaluable through prayer, giving, volunteering, and promoting us on social media. A champion of letting God work through people to encourage and empower change, Jhoselle has caught the Plant With Purpose fever and is infecting others with her zeal. Committed to adventure and personal challenge, Jhoselle will be visiting our program in the Dominican Republic this month. Thanks for your dedication Jhoselle, and prayers for you and the team in the Dominican Republic!

How did you first get involved with Plant With Purpose?IMG_2545

I first heard about Plant With Purpose when my friend Chris invited me to attend an open house in July 2014. Right from the start I was stoked about the purpose of the organization. Soon after I volunteered at the 30th Annual Planting Hope Gala, got to know more about the difference Plant With Purpose was making, and read Tending to Eden. I fell in love with the organization, and have been supporting and advocating for Plant With Purpose ever since.

Can you share about what your involvement looks like?

I partner with Plant With Purpose through prayer, giving, volunteering, and promoting on social media. I’ll be going on my first “Vision Trip” to visit the program in the Dominican Republic this month!

What motivates you to use your gifts and time to support the organization?

I’ve been drawn to the natural environment and the ecology of how systems work together since I was a child. Plants, air, water, elements, creatures, and people – it’s so beautiful to see when these things work together in harmony the way God intended. I am lead to a deep sense of gratitude as I observe His glory.

Ultimately, Jesus motivates me to give to Plant With Purpose. With an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all He gives me on a daily basis (love, acceptance, affirmation, approval, significance, forgiveness, freedom, and life), I am motivated to proclaim his goodness and encourage others to seek the same harmony for themselves, their communities, and communities abroad. I feel that lending my boldness and encouragement to this organization is an efficient way to continue this process of restoring harmony to the world.

What aspect of our work do you resonate with most?

Empowerment. I love that this organization does not assume the needs of communities, but rather, gets to know their specific needs on a personal level. By doing this Plant With Purpose allows God (not people) to get to the root of problems, both physically and spiritually. It is so evident that God has been working through Plant With Purpose to transform lives. Blessed by this organization, our brothers and sisters are now eating well, sending their children to school, and thriving both physically and spiritually (by their own will and efforts). This empowerment is sustainable, and by God’s grace this prosperity will carry on for generations to come.

Do you have advice for people looking to uniquely use their gifts to support Plant With Purpose?IMG_1744-1

Whatever unique gift God gave you, there is a place for it at Plant With Purpose. Whether it’s volunteering your time or giving your resources, if you feel a calling to do something outside of yourself, this is the organization for you to partner with. I suggest reading Tending to Eden by Scott Sabin, and getting to know the other amazing team members at Plant With Purpose. As in my case, you will find the mission and the team irresistible!

Favorite place you’ve visited:

Portland, Oregon! Nature there is just mind-blowing! It is gorgeous, with lush trees and plants everywhere. I also love Portland culture, as it is quite environmentally conscious and sustainable. Portland supports bike culture, local farmer’s markets, and small businesses. People are friendly and enjoy a higher quality of life; Portland knows what they’re doing. Some say Portlanders are “weird” or “dated”, perhaps that’s why I love them so much.

Fun fact about yourself:

I like to challenge myself by doing really out-of-the-box things. For example, I was on my high school wrestling team for one season as well as an off-season for the girl’s state championships. It was tough and totally unexpected, but so much fun and totally worth it!

Congratulations Jhoselle! We are so grateful for your contributions to Plant With Purpose!
