Plant a Tree in Honor of Dad

As we reminisce this Father’s Day on the reasons to be thankful for dad, it’s natural to think about the ways our fathers have loved us well. Whether we feel thankful for the years of coaching our soccer team, for being the voice of wisdom, or for working hard to provide us with what we need, dads get to play a special role in the lives of their children. Yet, it is also worthy to recognize and be inspired by what many of our fathers do for the world around them.

Raymond Jean, one of our partnering farmers in Haiti, is certainly a father to be inspired by. Aside from raising his children, Raymond is a dreamer, a learner, and a giver. As one who loves animals, he dreams of adding more birds, goats, cows, and even a horse to his farm. Of course, he knows he must wait until his trees are tall enough to not be eaten. While working alongside Plant With Purpose, Raymond has learned how to grow his crops more effectively and sustainably. He even started using a fuel-efficient stove that is made to save more wood and lower the risk of respiratory infections. Raymond has more than just a compassion for the environment, but he has a heart for people. Recently after winning a goat in a savings group competition, his goat had babies and he gave them to the people he competed against. This dad is not only a great father, but a great leader in his community.

This Father’s Day, be inspired by Raymond Jean and plant a tree as a gift for dad. Make a donation to plant a tree, an orchard, a hillside, or even a whole forest in one of the rural communities we partner with which will multiply the number of fruits like these avocados that Raymond and his son are holding.

Happy Father’s Day!
