Planting Seeds for the Future

Investing in children can change their futures—along with their families, communities, and the world. That’s why Plant With Purpose works to engage children and youth in education that will impact their lives and the communities they live in.
“If we want a better country, we have to work with the children,” shares Durbel Lora, who works as the agroecology director for Plant With Purpose Dominican Republic. One of the ways the program has accomplished this is by co-writing and publishing a book in collaboration with the Dominican government’s Ministry of the Environment. This book is being used in classrooms across the country to educate children on environmental issues and what they can do to care for creation.
Two weeks ago, Plant With Purpose Tanzania also conducted a “Redemptive Agriculture” training at a Lutheran secondary school near Marangu. The students responded by asking for some practical training, so we gave them a chance to get their hands dirty by creating a biointensive garden bed! The children expressed their excitement and said they can’t wait to take their newfound knowledge home with them.
