At the start of a new year, we acknowledge that there is much to praise God for in 2013. We also want to stop and pray that the Lord will go before us into 2014 as it says in Proverbs 16:3,

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Please join us tomorrow, the first Friday of the month, as Plant With Purpose’s international family prays in unity for God to work through Plant With Purpose and bring about transformation in the lives of the rural poor.

Burundi

We praise God for:

  • Country director Lazare’s safe return following his two-month, research visit to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel.
  • The successful distribution of banana, cassava, and vegetable seeds in the province of Makamba.

We pray for:

  • God to continue to open doors for our program.
  • The upcoming visit of U.S. staff members. Pray that our time together will be fruitful.
  • The next steps for partnering with the ministry of the environment. Pray that this partnership will deepen, allowing the Nyakazu watershed project to move forward.
  • Our staff retreat, that it will be spiritually refreshing.
  • A good rainy season so crops can grow.

Dominican Republic

We praise God for:

  • His provision over the individuals, families, and communities that partnered with us in 2013.

We pray for:

  • The upcoming year of 2014. Pray that God will help us to achieve our goals and give us vision for the year ahead.
  • New communities to be receptive to our work especially in the basin of the Ozama River.
  • God to help us find a new location for our office in Piedra Blanca.

Haiti

We praise God for:

  • A safe trip for Program Officer Milmer and David Panetta with VSLA and Associates and the fruitful VSLA program evaluation.

We pray for:

  • The poor globally and specifically for the poor in Haiti. Pray that the poor will have food at the start of this year. Also, that the poor will have many opportunities to have needs met in 2014.
  • Wisdom and humility for Plant With Purpose staff in the process of empowering the rural poor.

Mexico

We praise God for:

  • A new year full of potential for activities and impact through our program.
  • The past five and a half years that Claudia Camacho worked with us as the VSLA coordinator. Pray for her future endeavors.

We pray for:

  • The communities in the highlands of Chiapas, the region of La Mixteca, and the Oaxaca Valley. Pray for guidance and wisdom as we face new challenges in 2014.
  • God to show His healing grace in the lives of Adriana Rosibel and Joel Santiago as they are in poor health.
  • The ideal person to fill the staffing need of a new savings-and-loans group coordinator.

Tanzania

We praise God for:

  • Country director Richard who successfully completed his MBA. Thanks to his efforts, we’ve seen excellent growth of Plant With Purpose programs in Tanzania. Richard has been working very hard and is a great blessing to our team.

We pray for:

  • The upcoming group competition! Groups from VSLAs, churches, schools, and other institutions, are actively preparing to plant the most trees and biointensive backyard gardens. Pray for accuracy, good performance, and safety for all the groups that participate.
  • More seedlings. The demand for trees is higher than the available supply in the Kilimanjaro region. We want to continue planting through the start of the New Year so many groups are starting new nurseries.
