Prayer is foundational to Plant With Purpose as an organization. On the first Friday of every month, the international body of Plant With Purpose pauses and lifts up the praises and prayer requests submitted by one another. Carlos Disla, country director of the Dominican Republic, frequently reminds staff and supporters that “We are an organization moving forward on our knees.” The lives changed, the land restored, the food now on tables are reflections of God at work through Plant With Purpose. This month we are including prayer requests for the Democratic Republic of the Congo as key staff is in place, launching the pilot phase of our newest country program. Thank you for moving us forward and joining us in lifting up these praises and prayer requests.

Burundi

We praise God for:

  • His mercy and protection of the staff and their families during bloody demonstrations over the past two months.
  • The continuation of program activities during the unrest. Most work has taken place upcountry where our program is essential.

We pray for:

  • Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Monday, June 29 with additional elections to follow this summer. There is currently a lot of tension and people are in a panic.
  • Some staff members have left Burundi to find safety in the USA and Europe. Please pray for new staff and that we find the right people to serve in the right places.
  • Many Burundians have fled and are now suffering as refugees in Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Please pray for their well-being.

Democratic Republic of the Congo

We praise God for

  • A successful launch of Plant With Purpose’s new pilot program in the DRC. The pilot program will be in the Kakumba watershed, located between Lake Tanganyika and Itombwe Forest in the province of South Kivu.
  • The partnership of Eben Ezer Ministries International, the local NGO hosting the pilot program. They are a highly respected NGO that shares many of Plant With Purpose’s values.

We pray for:

  • Birori Dieudonne, our new pilot project manager, as he establishes relationships with the local community, hires a team, and formally launches Plant With Purpose in DRC.
  • The communities within the Kakumba watershed. Please pray for good communication between our team and local families as they come to a mutual understanding of needs and solutions.

Dominican Republic

We praise God for:

  • The adoption of the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) methodology in the communities of Pepe Pérez and El Siete in the Ozama watershed.

  • Adequate rainfall, which is necessary for crops to grow.
