BURUNDI

We praise God for:

  • The continued open doors for our program.
  • Plant With Purpose Burundi being chosen out of 20 organizations to receive a small grant from USAID. Plant With Purpose Burundi was chosen because of our strong reputation and excellent work.
  • Continued partnership with IFDC (International Fertilizer Development Center) as they value our work and support us financially.

We pray for:

  • The official opening of the cassava processing plant on September 6. Pray that it will operate successfully and that it will be a great asset to the community.
  • Continued healing for our bookkeeper Angelique as she is recovering from her successful surgery.
  • Healing for country director Lazare’s wife, Celine, who has not been feeling well for a while.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

We praise God for:

  • The enthusiasm for and successful integration of the Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) methodology in partnering rural communities.

We pray for:

  • God to provide the resources and skills for communities to increase their economic activities and their savings through the development of small businesses.
  • Humility as community leaders seek to effectively serve their communities.
  • Encouragement for partnering farmers who belong to VSLA groups to further develop their farms.
  • Our staff and partnering farmers to efficiently develop new agroforestry farm plots.
  • Pastors and community leaders to continue seeing the value of VSLA groups and to encourage participation.

HAITI

We praise God for:

  • The hard work of our staff as they set activity goals for the 2014 fiscal year.

We pray for:

  • Safe travel for Kristen and Milmer as they travel to Haiti this month.
  • Our staff as they implement the activities and goals set for the current fiscal year. Pray that these objectives will be accomplished and our commitments met.

MEXICO

We praise God for:

  • Providing an office in the state of Chiapas as we expand our work to the communities in this region.
  • Blessing the work of groups in Rio Garza, Yucuxina, Chepeginio, and other partnering communities. These groups continue to work on greenhouses, nurseries, orchards, and farms.
  • The positive results coming from the “Stewardship of Creation” workshop (Church, Community, and Change) in our communities.
  • His response to our prayers for the health of the staff and relatives of our promoters.

We pray for:

  • The health of Mrs. Obdulia from the community of La Muralla and for our staff member Elizabeth.
  • The wellbeing of our brothers in the community of Chepeginio.
  • Rainfall as the Mixtec communities are suffering from water shortages.
  • Resolution to the dispute between the teachers and the government in the states of Oaxaca, Campeche, and Michoacan, which has delayed the start of the school year for many children.

TANZANIA

We praise God for:

  • The new produce markets that our groups in Moshi and Marangu have opened. These markets only sell certified organic produce grown under the community-run participatory guarantee system. The launch has been successful and groups are learning a lot about market demand.
  • The launch of new groups in Siha and Same districts as the resources and time to train them are now available. We have had a wait list of communities wanting to learn about VSLA, farmer field schools, “Redemptive Agriculture,” organic farming, and how to better build a strong and lasting environment.

We pray for:

  • Continued support and willingness for community members to try new things as we move forward with pilot projects such as these organic markets.
  • Sufficient resources to address the remaining community requests.

THAILAND

We praise God for:

  • Plant With Purpose Thailand’s staff as they just completed their midterm reviews.

We pray for:

  • Discernment during the process of selecting new partnering villages.
  • The community land deed work in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai areas.
  • Conflict resolution in the village of Pang Dang Nok as they work to resolve some current issues.
  • The selection of a new board member for Plant With Purpose Thailand and the preparation for the organization to be registered as a foundation.

USA

We praise God for:

  • Our board of directors and the productive meeting that took place in August.
  • The opportunity to share about Plant With Purpose at the Fourth Estate Summit held at UCLA.

We pray for:

  • The hiring process of a Director of Field Operations and an Outreach Coordinator to join the team in San Diego.
  • Plans for the upcoming 2013 Planting Hope Gala as people RSVP and details come together.
  • Successful orientation for our fall interns as they join the team this month.
  • A safe and productive visit to Haiti and Dominican Republic for Program Officer Milmer Martinez and Financial Director Kristen Tucker.
  • Scott Sabin as he speaks at Idea Camp in Austin, TX in September.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support! We are deeply grateful for your partnership.
