Plant With Purpose is officially working in seven countries. The newest program launched this summer in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). For our local partners, it is an answer to prayer. The excitement, enthusiasm, and energy with which Plant With Purpose has been greeted are confirmation that we are in the right place.

One of Plant With Purpose’s Core Values is collaboration. This week two staff members from Tanzania are in DRC training the pilot project team in program methodologies. The collaboration taking place weaves these individual programs together as family.

Would you join our family in lifting up these praises and prayer requests? Please continue keeping Burundi in your prayers as gunfire and violence broke out again this week in the capital city of Bujumbura.

Burundi

We praise God for:

  • The recruitment process and hiring of two coordinators to oversee environmental restoration and holistic ministry/capacity building efforts.
  • His protection during the five months of political crisis in Burundi.
  • The continuation of program activities (especially upcountry) during this time of unrest.
  • The ability to visit partnering communities and hold a staff meeting in the province of Rutana. A successful “Theology of Work” training was also held as conditions are becoming safer.

We pray for:

  • Peace and stability in the country as security has yet to be reestablished.
  • The germination of 700,000 seeds that are currently in our tree nurseries.
  • The trees planted last year to not be destroyed. During summer, land is burnt as people prepare fields for planting. This further destroys the soil rather than improving it.
  • Wisdom for the process of hiring an economic empowerment coordinator.

Democratic Republic of the Congo

We praise God for

  • Receiving the new curriculum on environmental restoration.
  • The team overseeing the pilot project and the work that has begun.
  • The three tree nurseries that have already been established.
  • Resources such as a Toyota truck that will allow Plant With Purpose to help communities.
  • The identified facilitators whose leadership will strengthen their communities.

We pray for:

  • The seeds in the tree nurseries to grow.
  • The construction of the new office in Gomba. The building materials are almost ready.
  • Soil sample collection and their analysis, which will help inform farming practices.
  • Richard and Alice’s visit from Plant With Purpose Tanzania. Pray that their time in DRC will be fruitful for the team as ideas and best practices are exchanged.

Dominican Republic

We praise God for:

  • The new partnership with the community of Medina and their excitement to form a savings group.
  • The rain that has started falling in parts of the country. Continue praying for rain during this time of drought.

We pray for:

  • Rain to prevent the loss of timber and fruit trees.
  • The new partnership with the community of Guázuma. Pray for their understanding of the holistic work of Plant With Purpose.
  • The upcoming workshop for pastors and church leaders in the Ozama region.
  • The communities of Hormigo, La Lomita, Reparadero, Lechería, and Maizal as they form mutual help associations. These associations are part of “Church, Community, and Change” and will provide community funds to families who have lost loved ones. This money will help cover funeral and burial costs, which would otherwise trap people in poverty.

Haiti

We praise God for:

  • The new partnership with the community of Tisous. Farmers there have started a VSLA group.
  • The engagement and enthusiasm of staff as they train and motivate partnering farmers.

We pray for:

  • Rainfall during these summer months for partnering farmers’ fields. They plan to continue planting trees but this is difficult with lack of rain.
  • A group of farmers who have decided to conserve and reforest an area by planting 8,000 trees. Please pray for how Plant With Purpose can encourage them in these efforts.

Mexico

We praise God for:

  • His provision and safety during last month’s Vision Trip as the group blessed communities in Tamazola.
  • His protection and care for staff members as they travel to the field.
  • The enthusiasm of program participants in Tamazola. It is an encouragement for the staff and keeps the team moving forward.
  • The holistic ministry workshop that took place in the community of Mesbiljá, Chiapas.
  • Martin Gómez and Ramón Gómez Díaz’s vegetable crops. Martin harvested poblano chilies and wheat. Ramón is currently growing tomatoes in his greenhouse. Both men thank the Lord for these crops.

We pray for:

  • The health of promoter Adela Jarquín.
  • The construction of water cisterns and ecological latrines in the communities of Tamazola. Please pray for the Lord’s blessing on these projects and that there will be teamwork, unity, and harmony amongst the community members as they work together.
  • Rain. Crops, fruit trees, and reforestation projects need more water for survival.
  • Wisdom for government officials in the State of Chiapas to resolve political and social conflicts.

Tanzania

We praise God for:

  • The successful move of our office to Moshi.
  • Team spirit and unity amongst staff.
  • The high level of adoption of program activities amongst partnering communities.

We pray for:

  • A safe trip for staff traveling to DRC to share and learn from our brothers and sisters. Richard and Alice will be sharing successes, failures, and best practices to help the DRC program have a strong start.
  • God to provide the right staff members to fill vacant positions. Pray the candidates will believe in our mission and will help the organization move forward.
  • The health and safety of staff as they continue doing good work.
  • Peace and security in Tanzania during political campaigning and upcoming elections.

Thailand

We praise God for:

  • The signing of an agreement for a five-year pilot project focused on Holistic Ministry curriculum development for seminary students. Plant With Purpose will chair the working committee made up of Payao Bible Seminary and World Vision Thailand. Please pray for cooperation and development of the plan.
  • Increased involvement in environmental restoration projects by VSLA groups, women’s groups, and church leaders–especially tree planting in villages and community forest areas.
  • A successful Young Leadership Development training for 10 churches from Myanmar. The gained knowledge and skills will allow them to start holistic ministry programs in their communities and churches.

We pray for:

  • The development of women’s groups and VSLA groups in new communities where we are working.
  • Preparation for new areas of work including community surveys, awareness training, and other start-up projects.

USA

We praise God for:

  • The launch of the pilot program in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Praise God for the initial community meetings, staff training, and strong in-country partnerships. Please continue praying for project manager Birori Dieudonne, his team, and partnering communities.
  • Our supporters and donors who have led the way with our Plant For Tomorrow expansion campaign. It has been a huge success thus far.
  • Bringing us Miguel Martinez, our new finance assistant.

We pray for:

  • Wisdom in filling the current staffing need of a director of development and marketing.
  • The Plant For Tomorrow campaign as we reach new donors and supporters to financially support the work of Plant With Purpose.
  • The Planting Hope Gala taking place on October 3. Pray for attendance, generosity, and that we honor the stories of transformed lives being shared.
  • Safety of the staff as three members travel to visit the program in Mexico.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support! We are deeply grateful for your partnership.
